INFAMOUS:.. Of the two movies that portray Truman Capote and the writing of "IN COLD BLOOD" this might be the best. Film buffs will invariably be forced to compare the two films. I am choosing INFAMOUS over CAPOTE. But I do give both movies 5 Stars....

INFAMOUS:.. Of the two movies that portray Truman Capote and the writing of "IN COLD BLOOD" this might be the best. Film buffs will invariably be forced to compare the two films. I am choosing INFAMOUS over CAPOTE. But I do give both movies 5 Stars. The casting of INFAMOUS, brilliant. Toby Jones, as Capote, Sandra Bullock, and Daniel Craig were unusual but brilliant choices because they are both superb actors. 5.0 STARS in my humble opinion

While Toby Jones plays Capote with zeal, depth and clarity, it is perhaps a bit too exaggerated and silly. Sure, Capote was a flamboyant, bizarre man, and needs to be played with a bit oh humor, but I found it quite difficult to take Jones' portrayal seriously as a portrait of a human being. The supporting cast--which is an impressive list of names--does a fine job but there are really no standouts, no performances that woo you enough to lift Jones' perfromance out of the humor bin. That being said, the film as a whole functions very well, giving a lovely backdrop palette for the life and world that Capote moved in. Once the action moves to the South, the drama plays quite real and quite intense. Douglas McGrath does an above average job of transporting us to this world.

Infamous is involving and goes down easily, but I thought Capote the better film, perhaps because I saw it first. I guess I didnt really buy the contention in Infamous that Capote was so in love with one of the killers he chronicled in In Cold Blood...

I guess I didnt really buy the contention in Infamous that Capote was so in love with one of the killers he chronicled in In Cold Blood that he was pretty finished as a writer and person forever after.
