As an adventure, it's everything you would expect from 1980's Spielberg: expertly paced, good stuntwork, excellent effects. The script and the plot hold up, if you don't examine it too...

Beware of any movie that begins with Kate Capshaw singing ...
As an adventure, it's everything you would expect from 1980's Spielberg: expertly paced, good stuntwork, excellent effects. The script and the plot hold up, if you don't examine it too closely, and Harrison Ford is the best representative of light-hearted moral ambiguity in Hollywood.
The film's failure, of course, Kate Capshaw as the female lead. There is a complete lack of chemistry with Indy (the "nocturnal rituals" banter is awkward beyond words to describe. Capshaw is a scream a minute (literally, I think). A character this annoying, this pathetic and helpless, needs a much better actress to pull this off.
This was worth the rental, because now I'll never be tempted to buy the disc!

the worst of the bunch but still very good
Not counting Kingdom of the Crystal Skull from earlier this year (I refuse to put it in the same category with the trilogy of the 80s) this one is the least successful of the bunch - however it's still a very enjoyable film. I think the thing that...

Not counting Kingdom of the Crystal Skull from earlier this year (I refuse to put it in the same category with the trilogy of the 80s) this one is the least successful of the bunch - however it's still a very enjoyable film. I think the thing that bothered me the most is that most of it takes place in the same dark place - the Temple of Doom - and there are almost none of the great chases and plot twists as in the other two films. Still, it's fun to watch: way better than any Indiana wannabe ("The Mummy", "National Treasure" etc.).
