Pretty slow movie, not a lot of action. I thought it was a good movie overall, but didn't keep me on the edge of my seat like I wanted it to.

Watching the trailer for this movie and reading about it made me really interested in seeing what it was all about it. I've been hoping to view it for months but never got a chance and when I finally did get a chance to sit down and watch it I found myself enjoying it but not expecting it to be the way that it was. Now don't get me wrong, there is some very good acting taking place in this movie and it's mostly being seen by Tommy Lee Jones and Charlize Theron (because the rest of the fine cast of actors do not get as much screen time). However, I think I would of given the full five star review to this movie if the story didn't flip-flop back and forth mulling over the different scenarios for why a horrible event occured, also would of been five stars if the rest of the great cast were involved more in the movie.
Even with mentioning those two points "In The Valley of Elah" was still entertaining, interesting, and emotional enough to earn it my rating of four stars.

THIS IS NOT ANOTHER WAR MOVIE AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN NOMINATED FOR BEST PICTURE. I actually enjoyed this film more than Micheal Clayton and No Country but sadly this film was and still is overlooked. While the background of this film is military this film is more than that. It's about a father's love for his son and regret. A son goes missing while he is in the service but we dont know what happened and at the conclusion of the film you get all the answers but it leaves a very unsettled feeling in you. Still haunting me is the final scene with Tommy Lee Jones and the American flag. This was a very different film than I expected but was actually much better. Based on a true story this part mystery part war drama will hopefully get a second life on DVD and will get the respect it deserves. Read some of the reviews here and noticed how they are mostly positive. Just remember that this can be a difficult viewing at times with some rough moments and it's a heartbreaking film but it's not trying to pull at your heartstrings instead it's just trying to tell a difficult story and In The Valley of Elah manages to that in a compelling story. No Country and Micheal Clayton were good, this movie was better and I hope the general public eventually sees this film they will feel the same. Tommy Lee must win Best Actor for the part he played. A distant military man with nothing but concern on his face the entire movie. Hats of to this film!

A moving and involving drama, "In the Valley of Elah" presents us with Tommy Lee Jones as an former military man who's searching for a son recently returned from Iraq and now AWOL. The police aren't interested in helping in this military matter, and the military appear to be holding back, so Tommy Lee has to go it alone. From that description you may be imagining a detective or action story with Tommy Lee Jones once aqain the crusty old sheriff who's going to set things straight. But the film is so much more than this. The real investigation and discovery turns out to be more concerned with what Iraq did to Tommy Lee's son and buddies and is doing to the rest of America. The criminal investigation and the more conceptual one comes together in the climax. It's very skilfully done and the performances are superb. The DVD has no extras, but you won't need any after this great film.
