Ikiru, 1952

This is a fascinating movie, although it is a little slow. It tells us that life is brief. We should use our time to establish meaningful relationships and work to do something significant. We should not waste our days with boring, insignificant work. It is never too late to change from just existing, as the bureaucrat does when he discovers he has cancer, to doing something important and useful. If we have a useful life we can depart this world in peace. Even though the government bureaucrat's coworkers realize these truths while at his wake, all except one found it impossible to change their ways.
