good, suspense filled movie. the ending seemed somewhat rushed however. I guess I was just expecting more.

I was surprised after I saw this in theaters on how many people didn't like it. I loved it. I think this is one of my most favorite films ever. Maybe people didn't like it because of the dog. Which, granted, is generally a "No No" for Hollywood...

I was surprised after I saw this in theaters on how many people didn't like it. I loved it. I think this is one of my most favorite films ever. Maybe people didn't like it because of the dog. Which, granted, is generally a "No No" for Hollywood movies. But, it's a realistic end of world flick, which you can't find these days. I felt that in the situation that Smith's character was in, all alone in a once bustling city with only his daughters dog as his companion trying to save the human race, that this was necessary. Life is not always fair. I felt that the intent of this story was not a mere apocalypse story, but a story of one hero risking anything and everything to save mankind. Overall, Will Smith was fantastic and the story was riveting and well done, aside from a little mediocre computer animation that I gladly let slide, I give it an A+ and I don't care what anyone else thinks.

Very good movie! Haven't seen a good movie in forever! I was always hesitant to watch this movie since there was so much hype about it! Movies with too much hype are usually not that great! Now I can see why! Rent this movie you wont be disappointed!

Will Smith does an an excellent job keeping you interested in what is going on. Not many actors could pull off a roll like this. He brings a lot of depth to his character. And the use of Sam the dog as a character awesome.

Will Smith does an an excellent job keeping you interested in what is going on. Not many actors could pull off a roll like this. He brings a lot of depth to his character. And the use of Sam the dog as a character awesome.
The shots of New York desolate and overgrown are haunting. Reminds me of a similar scene from Vanilla Sky, only much more terrifying here. The infected are surprisingly scary and the CGI used to create them is not at all distracting as it can be in many films.
In watching the film it does seem as if many pieces are borrowed from other places, but I suppose the fact that the book the movies is adapted from has been adapted two other times in "The Omega Man" and "The Last Man on Earth." I am unfortunately unfamiliar with the book the story is adapted from, however I am interested in seeing how loyal they stayed.
My favorite line from the film: "The world is quieter now. We just have to listen, if we listen we can hear God's plan." Check it out, let me know what you think.

I thought the movie was just about to get going 1.5 hrs in, and then it ended 10 minutes later. And Will Smith is a decent actor, but he might as well be playing the EXACT same "cool", wise-cracking character at different times various similar looking cities in this, I, Robot, MIB, Enemy of the State, the upcoming Hancock, etc, etc. Not to pick on the guy, but it's getting tired. Where's the depth and range he showed in Six Degrees of Separation?

This was an almost entirely disappointing film. The film starts off positive enough with a genuinely intriguing premise: a scientist believes that he is the only normal person left who is capable of stopping a virus outbreak. What could have been this film's strongest aspect, the exploration of a lonely life left deserted in the remnants of a dead society, is instead relegated to random scenes of Smith playing golf and hunting deer in a sports car. I would have liked to see more of a study of what happens when man is left truly alone, similar to Cast Away. Instead, this film simply moves from random plot point to random plot point without truly providing an interesting thread around them.
By the end of the film, I did not learn anything more about the world or the characters portrayed. In the alternate ending, there is the slightest hint of a character arc for Smith, but even that falls short of a truly emotional climax because of the rest of the film's lack of powerful, human scenes.
Worst of all, the movie is plagued with some of the worst CGI that I've seen in a long time. The infected look more like bumbling idiots than actual threats, and their overly fake appearance removes all semblance of fear from their presence.

I have three problems with this movie. Firstly I don't know why the producers decided to use the title, "I Am Legend". The book itself while a classic and popular among a certain literary set can not possibly have enough equity to be needed to guarantee strong box office receipts. Secondly, I always thought the book had a certain cinematic feel that would translate well onto the big screen. And after three adaptations I'm still waiting for a version that has anything more than a passing resemblance to its literary progenitor. And my third problem is that the film should have been titled Omega Man since this movie resthat 1970'embles s classic more than the book.
I like this movie much better when judging it on the Omega Man scale. The first half of the film is exceptional creating an abandoned New York City that is realistic and haunting. Will Smith does a good job playing the last man on earth role. But the second half falls apart with the introduction of new characters, the mute CGI generated "vampire/zombies", and the weak ending.

I Am Legend is a beautifully shot movie with good casting and a catchy premise. Will Smith is only person on Earth who is still alive. Just like in 28 days later it is stunning to see places that are, in real life, most lively to be completely abandoned and quite. Smith is a scientist and it turns out that he is working on the cure for the plague that taken over the world. He can travel freely around during daytime because the monsters are sort of vampires and will burn if they chase him outside. Why is he a Legend? The simple answer is because he is the only one alive but it is for the viewer to decide.
The title is also one of the problems - we never really get to say why is he legendary, there is one reason in the end but has little to do with the meaning of the word 'Legend'. It turns out that the book had it right but they decided to make it more audience friedly and dumbed it down. In the book he was the Legend for the vampire race, he was like a Boogeyman used to scare vampire children (ok, they are not really vampires, they age) only more real and was a threat to them. In the film he is a Legend for humans if anything.
Other thing is that a really good cinematography is partly destroyed by embarassing CGI. It's quite strange for a blockbuster to stray so much from the mainstream standard.
There is some more logical questions (although minor) and an ending that doesn't really gives you that 'I'm glad I've seen it' feeling. Too bad since it starts really good. Watch it only if you want to find out it is worse than it should be and if you like would like to see how a deserted NY looks like

yeah, i gave it four stars, but admittedly it's because i love this kind of movie... it is a genre film and all a genre film has to do is make previous treatments of it redundant and i think it succeeded... there are a couple movies or more that can now be phased out because this one has arrived...
nothing deep here, basically a surface-level popcorn flick, but a really good one that never quite sinks to the lowest common denominator...
yes, like so many others, i was bothered by the cg effects of the 'darkseekers', but i totally bought into the rest of it... it was engrossing, i lost track of time for the entirity of the running time and isn't that what a movie like this is all about?
btw, when i watched it, i somehow accidentally managed to watch the alternate version and hated the ending, but, after giving it some thought and reading some reviews (not necessarily in that order), i can live with it, i think, but, i still intend to watch the theatrical cut... in fact, i know i will purchase this one and i don't love many movies THAT much...
