I love the imagination of Charlie Kaufman and the direction of Michel Gondry. I'm a big fan of all their stuff.
Kaufman's characters are so funny, vivid and always, deeply flawed. Where did he get the idea of a man who thinks he's an ape and a woman with hair-growth problem?
This movie is funny, thought provoking and just plain weird.

2-stars, but only b/c I hold Gondry in such high regard. It's hard to see this as one of his movies; yes, the story is a poignant commentary on primitivism and the tabula rasa, but the cinematic eye we expect from Gondry is just not here. His films are so beautifully shot and creative, but this film is positively ordinary and at times even ugly, right down to the CGI mice I never expected to see from Gondry. There are none of the visual tricks and eye candy of his later films, so I'll chalk it up to a rookie mistake.

There's a very good chance you're going to hate this movie. Yes, I'm giving it four stars, and I still say there's a very good chance you're going to hate it. I "Really Liked" it because (1) I am a huge Charlie Kaufman fan (2) I tend to love movies that go for completely off the wall, and (3) the very end of this movie is perfect. There are not that many movies that get the ending right. OK, so why will you hate it? Because I think you not only have to strongly agree with me on points 1 and 2, you have to be in just the right mood to sit through the scene where a hairy Patricia Arquette sings, a hairy Patricia Arquette plays King Kong, and the mice learn table manners. Take a chance on this only if you're in a particularly adventerous and odd mood.

a so so movie
I think this is Charlie Kaufman's worst script, it's still good but it's just not that interesting. The plot is nice and original as always but at some point the movie just gets too weird (I really lost it when it became a musical for a second...)....
