Hot Fuzz
'Hot Fuzz' takes the buddy action movie tropes and turns them into both a hilarious parody and a kickass action movie

The Shaun of the Dead guys score another hit. While not quite as funny as their horror mega hit, this movie is a lot of fun. Do watch out for the "Church scene". SPLAT!

Hilarious.
Simon Pegg, and the rest of the cast do a fantastic job of making this film a must-see comedy.

It certainly tops even the majority of action films today. Enjoy this flick or you're a silly barstool.

There are some brutal special effects to keep you on your toes, too. The one, small flaw is the overlong, action-overload finale. But if you liked the style of Shaun of the Dead, you'll love this.

So many different kinds of comedy! There's the biting satire of neighborhood "benevolent council" busybodies, my favorite bit. There's a great running parody of cop movies. There's the typical wordplay humor you've come to expect from a British movie. And then there's the bizarre "gore"stick sort of gags employed by Pegg and Frost in "Shaun of the Dead" and here again.
Great film. Amazing ensemble cast--where else can you find Timothy Dalton, Jim Broadbent and Steve Coogan in one movie? Also, AMAZING film buff movie--I loved the many "The Omen" references, right down to the music and Mrs. Baylock showing up in the cast list.
The only things taking away from it a bit were the somewhat slow start and 3-minutes-too-long ending.

It has slowly moved up on my list of top 2007 films, all the way to 3. I saw Shaun of the Dead and thought it was cute, but overrated and just soso on the funny side. When I saw the previews for this I wasn't even planning on seeing it. I had nothing to do one night, and was already there, so I decided to hop and see Hot Fuzz. I loved it. I've since seen it multiple times and I find it to be, for a film school kid, one of the most technically sound films of the year. The composite visuals, and the sound design makes the film. Well, what makes the movie is an impeccable script. It's just hilarious. It's not just a cop movie, it's not just a bunch of gags, it's a real story. After this, I revisited Shaun of the Dead, and realized that that isn't a stupid British zombie movie spoof. It's a story about a guy dealing with a lot--trying not to break up with his girlfriend, trying to move up in the world, debating whether or not to leave his slacker best friend behind, and it just so happens that while he's dealing with those things, there's a zombie apocalypse. That's what movies should be. External goals are secondary. Both of these movies are A+ and I cannot wait for the next Edgar Wright film.
