More Like Heaven than Hell
This movie I think, is something of a masterpiece. Visually, it is not only impressive but rich, original and engaging. del Toro keeps the pace brisk but injects enough pathos and humour to keep you feeling the characters at the same time marvelling at the grandness of his fantasy world and the beauty of his mythical creatures.
Ron Perlman delivers a really funny and believable characterisation of the hero, torn between an all consuming, robust potentcy and a destructive, debilitating insecurity. Wrap it up in a John Wayne swaggar and there you go!
Great film. Must see.

this movie was absolute crap! i was so excited, as i loved the first movie, and now this? they got rid of a main supporting character with a simple line about his leaving and they changed the voice actor for one of the main characters. I'm not sure...

I'm not sure what was worse, the plot, the acting or the awful makeup. do not see, do not remember, do not even glance at in 4 months when its in some video stores 3 dollar bin.

This is more to say that - once again - Ne+flix has a movie marked as "Widescreen", and what arrived in the mail was a pan-and-scan disc. It's almost pointless to watch a film like this where so much detail was put into the huge set pieces if you can't see it letterboxed.

Not as good as the first in my opinion, but still good anyways. The problem for me was it was not as focused and dark as the first one, which I liked. This one had too many cute aliens and cute moments that didn't need to be there and sound/music...

Not as good as the first in my opinion, but still good anyways. The problem for me was it was not as focused and dark as the first one, which I liked. This one had too many cute aliens and cute moments that didn't need to be there and sound/music insertions that made it feel like they were pushing a music soundtrack. One scene of all the aliens in the beginning reminded me of Men in Black 2 - it just felt wrong. Also, Perlman in some scenes appeared smaller than in the first one and almost stood out like a guy wearing a red suit - which I didn't experience in the first. With all that aside, and some story elements that never seemed to fit, it still is fun and I'm glad to see they made a second film. Liz (Blair) is a bit more fun in this and not as unemotional as she was in the first. If you liked the first, you'll at least enjoy the second.

But it lacked an interesting storyline and the ending was extremely predictable with way too much foreshadowing throughout the film. The new characters are annoying and quirky.
