Important to understand France
Well, it doesnt matter with whom I talked, it seems like everybody learning French in school has seen this film. Therefore, it might be boring for some but I really think, that this film is a masterpiece:
1. It describes how is life in the Banlieus (Suburbs) of big cities
2. It describes the discrimination and the abuse of power of the police against less educated persons with lower chances
3. It shows how cultures live together but also racism
This film was the symbol for the life in the 90s. And shows the actions of 1993 after a immigrant was killed by the police. The film still shows a current problem because 2005 and 2009 there were new riots in the suburbans.

"La Haine" is said to have shocked French audiences, which apparently hane little idea of what is happening in their black and Arab ghettos. It will have less impact on Americans, who are accustomed to films about homeboys from the street, and with their common elements like the rap score, the fateful decisions between crime and the straight life, drugs, and politicized tension. The story behind "La Haine" is sincere enough, but the constant shouting and yelling of the post-adolescent threesome that are front-and-center gets tedious.
