I can't be much of a 'critic' of this movie as I have never read a Harry Potter book in my life. So, with that said, this is by far my favorite HP movie! I remember watching this in the theater and being utterly confused, but after many viewings...

I can't be much of a 'critic' of this movie as I have never read a Harry Potter book in my life. So, with that said, this is by far my favorite HP movie! I remember watching this in the theater and being utterly confused, but after many viewings (lord knows they play it on TV enough!) it has grown on me and I never tire of watching it. I can't say exactly what it is that makes me love it so darn much, but if I had to guess, I'd say it is the element of time travel, which intrigues me above all else. Also, I could love it for the underlying female empowerment aspect (think about it.... got it? Good.) This installment of the series has all the usual components that you would normally see and is highly fascinating. I do recommend it, but am appalled if you haven't already! Get on the ball! 2/7/09

Yeah, yeah, we've heard it before a million times: "Not as good as the book". But what does that really mean? To many it just means the movie is too different from the book. That's kind of like comparing an apple to an orange and complaining that...

Yeah, yeah, we've heard it before a million times: "Not as good as the book". But what does that really mean? To many it just means the movie is too different from the book. That's kind of like comparing an apple to an orange and complaining that the apple isn't as good at being an orange as the orange is. We're talking about two different art forms telling the same story. Obviously, the movie, by its very nature, isn't going to be as thorough as the book, but to fairly criticize the movie, we must consider it on its own terms and compare it only to other apples, i.e. other works in the same medium and genre. Compared to the other Harry Potter films, I feel POA is currently the best of the series (which is only up to number 5 thus far). It may not be as stringently faithful to the source material as its predecessors, films 1 and 2, but thankfully, its also not as lifeless or Disney-esque. Director Cuaron brings some artistic vision to this film and even attempts to improve upon some elements of the storyline (specifically, the time-turner scenes) in an effort to give the film a non-financial reason for existing. I'm not saying this movie is flawless. There's definitely room for improvement here, but if all you want is a paint-by-numbers, scene-for-scene adaptation of the books, then stick to the two Chris Columbus efforts, or better yet, just read the books.

dark, suspenseful and humorous
Usually films based on novels are not good as the books are. this is not a different case, but I think it's the best they could do if they wanted to stay faitful to the story in "only" two and a half hours... in here, the young heroes Harry Potter...

Usually films based on novels are not good as the books are. this is not a different case, but I think it's the best they could do if they wanted to stay faitful to the story in "only" two and a half hours... in here, the young heroes Harry Potter and his friends are older and have other issuses but You Know Who. they are teens now and have teens problems... this film is also much darker then the former films and littel children might be a bit affraid. I liked all Harry Potter's books and Iliked this film to. it's a grear adventure film that all the family can enjoy watching it.
