I have seen all of the Harry Potter movies with my children over the years. I found this film to be very disappointing. I was struck by how cheaply made it felt. Many scene in which CG characters are present are very darkly lit. It seems this is to cut down on the special effects budget rather than to create mood. Some of the special effects are on par with a TV movie. One scene in which Dumbledore (yea, I'm sure I spelled his name wrong) is conversing with a painting has a voice from someplace outside of the frame answering him rather than showing a CG character in the scene. It also seems there was little to no attempt to make some of the characters who have appeared in previous movies look like they did in past movies. In fact I wasn't sure Emma ThompsonThompson was really Emma Thompson, or that Jason Issacs was Jason Issacs. No wonder this film has not had the pre-release hype and buildup of the previous films. Compared to the previous films it seems there was little interest in spending any $$$ on this film. And to add to my frustration with this film, I didn't find the abbreviated storyline or the characters making up for the sloppy production.

I enjoyed this movie but not as much as others in the series. There was someting off about it. I know of course that they couldn't put all of the storylines from the book into the movie but I feel that vital information was either left out completely or barely touched upon i.e, Harry's anger at the beginning of the book, Sirius feeling of entrapment in the house or Harry's horror at finding out his father had a bit of a mean streak in him, even the occlumancy was barely explained. It failed to capture the heart or the emotion of the book, in my opinion. I have to admit I was disappointed with this entry, hopefully the other movies will do better.

Since I haven't read the books, my take might be a bit different. HP #1 was a kid's movie and little more, but fine for that; HP #2 made no sense; HP #3 was great and the only one I've watched multiple times (strong plot, interesting characters, great acting); HP #4 jumped around to much and had no continuity.
SO here we are at No. 5. It was dark and moody, and the accents were a bit hard to understand, but I enjoyed the movie. It built up some nice tension, and the ending was superb. Still, it was 90% build-up and 10% pay-off; it felt like it was laying the groundwork for future movies rather than being a self-contained movie in itself.

I've seen them all, and to me this is the least interesting and most overdone of them all. Each movie in the series amps up the special effects and production while the story becomes less interesting. The problem is there's so much crammed into this (similar to Spiderman 3) that it becomes a complete mess of a movie. The roles of all the major players are so small that they're barely present. The problem lies with the producers of the film who decided to spend vast amounts of time on the students doing inane things like practicing defensive magic and other things that aren't remotely interesting - and ignoring the important things like building a story or keeping dialogue interesting. I wish this same director wasn't coming back for the next film.

Could be the best movie of the Harry Potter series so far. While it is the darkest it also might be one of the most emotional. Everything has the usual magic touch to it you come to expect from the Potter films but now the intensity is cranked up. At this point films with this many sequels usually start dying out and not getting better. I gues alot of credit goes to J.K. Rowlings and director David Yates. I don't have to sell this film since the fan base is there. If you have not seen the previous films then start viewing them if you are interested then catch up with Oeder of the Phoenix. Truly for kids and adults who love that fantasy world the Potter series shows no signs of getting old unlike some of the stars of the film.

It's hard to say whether the "Harry Potter" series has run its course, or if the latest installment, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" is just lame. There's plenty of cuteness in the magic, there's the adolescent angst, there's star turns by Brit A-list actors (who don't get to do very much), etc., but there's precious little cinematic magic in this story. This series needs to be re-invented because the formula has become so crusty that it bores.
