SPOILERS!
By far the worst of the series. Did it occur to them to flesh out the plot for the actual Half-Blood Prince?! Did they think to mention that Harry found the Sectumsempra spell in the Prince's book? They mentioned the Prince, I think once, in the entire movie. I mean the movie is called "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince". It wasn't brought up again until the end when Snape told Harry that he was the Half-Blood Prince. Aside from that, the movie was just dissapointing. It lacked that certain "something" that made me love the first 5 films. And as such a pivotal point in the series, it failed to impress.

One of the best in the HP series. There was a better balance of condensing the book into the movie unlike #5. It was a mostly dark movie, but still had quite a few of jokes.

"HARRY POTTER & THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE" is a formula Harry Potter film, but a crucial element is missing from the magic potion this time: a compelling story. Whenever the scene shifts from the adolescent stirrings of romance among the students at Hogwarts -- that is, when the director remembers that he had a story to tell, namely the plot -- the movie jumps all over the place and makes little sense. A neophyte Potter fan would be lost, and even someone who's seen the whole series thus far will be puzzled and quickly give up caring. For Potter fans only. The DVD has no extras.

As an avid reader of the Harry Potter series, it is difficult not to compare the books to the movies and complain how the movies missed out on certain details or stories. However, before watching this film I expected the film to present the audience with five important events that have to happen to make this a decent film. If you have read The Half Blood Prince then you are aware that a major character dies, discover the true identity of the Half Blood Prince, the history of Tom Riddle/Lord Voldemort, and the relationships between Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione. The movie included the five events and I was satisfied with overall film.
Spoiler from imdb.com: There is a scene in this movie in which Death Eaters, led by Bellatrix Lestrange (Helena Bonham Carter) and Fenrir Greyback (Dave Legeno), attack The Burrow where Harry, The Weasley's, Lupin, and Tonks are staying. This particular scene was not in the book, but was made just for the movie to serve as a representative of all the news reports, which are scattered around in the source novel, about various attacks by Death Eaters on the wizard community. It was considered to provide better pacing for a movie to have Harry actually experience one such attack first hand, rather than hearing/reading about those that kept happening to some other students, or their relatives.
