Summary of Gulaal
The film is about an innocent student, Dileep, who goes studying in Jaipur, accompanied by his faithful servant Bhanwar. Here, on a backdrop of local political intrigue, he comes in contact with Rananjay Singh “Ransa,” a contemporary intelligent, sensitive young man who refuses to abide by traditions and whose ideologies clash with his father’s, the local raja; old fashioned Jadwal is the college goon who rags Dileep; Anuja, a professor ragged together with Dileep; despair brings both together and a strong emotional bond develops between them; Dukey Bana a powerful local figure who leads an army of radical Rajputs struggling to get Rajputana back from the Government of India and challenging the very idea of democracy; and Kiran, who uses Dileep for power and personal interest.
