The Girl from Monday, 2005

To say, as another reviewer did, that this film is a "heavy-handed attack on consumerism" is a vast understatement. I think if you have little to no concept of economics or business, it might be easier to suspend disbelief at the exchange-based valuation of human sexual activity, but if you think about the plausibility of it as described, it is simply absurd, moreso than a more bizarre, but acceptable conceit like time travel or teleportation in a science fiction film. The frustration being that the points could have been driven home without resorting to such absurdity. Having said, that, I actually can't complain about the visual style, and think it was well-shot, edited and produced, considering the miniscule budget the production must have consumed. The acting was actually decent-to-quite good. I felt Bill Sage did a particularly good job at playing his part. In a nutshell, I would have turned off the film 20 minutes into it had I not been on a plane without another film to watch and with nothing to read other than the SkyMall catalog. However, once I set aside my main complaint, I did feel the film was not so very bad as a piece of filmmaking.
