One of my favorite independent films. I Love dark comedies with strong satirical edge. Stars Thora Birch, Scarlett Johansson, and Steve Buscemi, excellent. Some scenes were actually laugh out loud funny. Ghost World" refers to the world in which these characters live, a town slowly being overcome by shopping malls and coffee shops; a town that slowly loses its distinctions and becomes a ghost of what it once was. This film earned 5.0 Stars

What a wonderful, quirky, insightful little film. Buscemi and Birch are perfectly suited to these roles. The dialogue and plot seem small, almost insignificant, until you listen to the way these actors perform their lines, watch how they bring these characters to life. When you pay close attention, this film becomes an epic about the quest to find love...or, failing that, acceptance of who you are.

After watching Terry Zwigoff's documentary "Crumb" I was obsessed with his tendency to study the "oddities" in our culture. Ghost World is a film that truly makes you smile, as Roger Ebert quoted "I wanted to give this movie a big hug", and I think after seeing it you will see why. Based on the popular comic by Daniel Clowes, Ghost World let's us into the world of a strange group of friends who are anything but "normal". I have recommended this film to some friends who simply do not get it but for those who have ever felt totally out of place in the world at some point in their life, I think Ghost World will touch your heart as it did mine.

not bad
Quite good. A movie about growing up and friendship that also has funny moments. Steve Buscemi knows how to play the geek, and Thora Birch has a strong performance here too.
