I am tempted to give it 5 stars, just because it was such an easy pleasure to watch. Totally mainstream comedy, reassuring like an old favorite shoe, about the dead trying to fix one thing in their lives before finally resting. (Yes, it does remind me a bit in that regard of the wonderful 1999 movie "After Life" which is admittedly coming to my mind all the time these days. I'll try not to refer to it again for a little while.) When the mostly-invisible recently deceased hear about Ricky Gervais, a rather funnily semi-sour regular guy, they drive him crazy because of something unusual that happened to him. Greg Kinnear is good, and Tea Leoni is perhaps my favorite actress of the moment. She is just great: she does not seem to know the meaning of fake. (Does that just mean she's a great actress, fooling me? I don't care. It's been like that for me since her "Family Man" a few years back.) I'm hoping to see her again soon in a good movie--like this one is for her. 4.09

This Underrated gem stars Ricky Gervais as A man who dies for a couple of minutes but is revived shortly thereafter.
As a result of this, his character can now see ghosts yet to depart to the afterlife due to unfinished business.
That leads to a ghost played by Greg Kinnear ask him for help tying up loose ends with his wife.
Ricky Gervais shows off his trademark british humor here and also shoe some heart too without devolving into treacle.
Most of you may have missed this back in August, but now you have a second chance to watch this funny, heartwarming tale.

It does however follow a very familiar pattern, nothing too original. But overall, it was a very pleasant movie, that I enjoyed watching and will watch again. Check it out.

The story isn't completely original in that it pulls aspects from every other ghost film and puts in a twist with the main character being a dentist. With that said, what makes this shine is Ricky Gervais, he's completely believable in his role and he makes this movie worth seeing. I've not watched the UK version of The Office so I'd not seen him in anything before, so it was a treat. It's a positive story with a positive ending so in all it's a feel-good movie. Kinnear's and Leoni are both good in their roles, I'd recommend this.

8/10Great
What should have been just another trivial Hollywood rom-com and a mere footnote on the careers of everyone involved is saved by the talents of comedian and first-time leading man Ricky Gervais. Though he didn't write the screenplay, Gervais clearly improvised many of his lines, and the film, written and directed by notable non-comedy writer David Koepp, is all the better for it. I especially liked the final line - cute, but clever. Mainly, Gervais seems to be testing the waters of film stardom here and succeeds in whetting our appetites for his own project, 2009's This Side of the Truth, which should be pretty darn good, judging from its impressive cast alone. Ghost Town will have to tide us over until then. It's formulaic fluff, for sure, but enjoyable formulaic fluff, and currently ranks in my top ten of the year. I think I need to see more movies from 2008.

4/10Disappointing
This is a pleasant enough family romance, but just about every plot twist is predicable. Within five or 10 minutes of the film's start, you know just how it'll all work out right down to the small details. Ricky Gervais creates a unique comic character, but the emphasis really is on "character" -- neither the part he plays or the roles of any of the other actors bear the slightest relationship to any real person.
