I wish they had gotten a lot smarter! (I can't be the first person to use that one.) While I can easily see how others may find it funny, the humor fell flat for me. I'm not sure why, something to do with the timing and delivery perhaps. There was also a lot of slapstick which doesn't do much for me. The fact that there was nothing that hasn't been done before probably had something to do with it too. The plot was so basic and uninteresting that I'd be hard-pressed to describe it. I predicted the 'twist' within 10 minutes, not that it matters much in a film of this kind but it was disappointing to find out I was right. I like Steve Carrell in The Office and on the Daily Show but I don't think he has fully come across in film yet or maybe I'm just bored with him. My expectations were not high but as a casual fan of the show, I wanted more. Everything I remember liking about it was missing from this film. It would have been nice to laugh at least once. Sadly, I did not. Sure to please most but I believe more discerning viewers will find it average at best. I suggest you get your smart elsewhere, it's not here.

The funny parts of this movie are very funny but dont come very often. There are some neat action scenes in this film too. I wish the movie had been cut shorter because it felt kind of tiring. Overall, not bad.

As a fan of the original show, I was hoping for so much more from the 2008 film version. The story was pretty decent for a reboot of the concept of CONTROL in a post-Cold War world. I found the humor lacking, though, and I think it suffered from being a PG-13 movie trying too hard to please PG crowds with silly slapstick and R crowds with more risque humor--and failing at both. They should have stuck with the great, campy satire that made what Mel Brooks and Buck Henry created so great.

It wouldn't be fair to compare this remake to the original series. Steve Carell isn't Don Adams. But maybe that's the film's biggest problem; it seemed like he was trying to be. At least he was when uttering certain classic lines that Adams trademarked. His voice changed and it seemed forced, like a bad impersonation. If they'd let him be himself, he'd probably have done better. They didn't make Anne Hathaway into Barbara Feldman. Agent 99 in this movie is her own character, and that's a good thing. It's just Max... and that's too bad, because he is the central character. A few laughs in this action-comedy, some truly preposterous moments (like reducing the giant assassin to tears; c'mon!), but by and large it's pretty bland stuff. I won't compare it to the original series that I watched reruns of as a kid. It's lowest common denominator stuff on its own. How different is it, really, from a Jackie Chan action-comedy? Not much, except not as exciting. "Get Smart" tries too hard and misses by *that much*.

A great, if not perfect, mix of comedy and action that is very hard to find in modern films. Steve Carell is just too good at this. Not to mention, it is awesome to see scantily clad Anne Hathaway kicking dudes in the teeth throughout the film. Believe it or not, this is a viable franchise, and this is sure to be a long-running series. I sure hope that pans out.

Steve Carell plays again in a great performance the unsuccessful smart geek. when he suddenly becomes a special agent he's sent to a mission with the gorgeous "agent 99" (Anne Hathaway). Sometimes he manages to surprise with unordinary acts and tactics, but then it all messed up again. A light, funny and exciting movie that's great if you just want to laugh and pass the time.
