One of the most captivating, fascinating, strange, beautiful films I've ever seen. It's part biopic, part fictional tragic love story, part spectacular. It's taking Diane and her photos and inventing an imaginary portrait of her life and those she interacted with. Don't think it's a documentary on her or that all of it is pure fiction - just enjoy a piece of art.

In the beginning of the movie it is stated that this is not a true biography, it's what the director envisioned Arbus' life was like... how she saw the world and interacted with it. It is truly a beauty and the beast tale in the most literal of forms - but it includes betrayal of a marriage, the social structure of the 40s and a woman's place, how one woman turns her back on that and in so - finding herself... amongst a room of "Freaks". If you want to learn about Diane Arbus, read a book, but this movie is spectacularly sweet, and yes, weird. The sexual tension is palpable, the sadness of living the wrong life emanates so strong... I think I even fell in love with a man/dog... btu that also might be because Robert Downey JR is awesome.

"Imaginary portrait" is right. The less you know about Arbus, the more you'll like this movie. Downey Jr.'s fantastic performance helps though.

Fur is about a womans affair with a wolf man of sorts, and not the kind of wolf man that Lon Chaney Jr. was. This was a very strange unconventional movie that went way outside any storyline I have ever seen. The movie does do somethings right but at times it just feels too strange, and I do love my obscurities in movies. The good things are like during the affair her husband starts growing a beard and like the womans strange fetish with the physically distorted, just imagine the whole cast of Freaks. The things that I didnt like are how the affair didnt strengthen the original marriage after it was over. After awhile I started to dislike the house wreaking wolf that has a lot more manners and is sophisticated beyond his years, he should have known better. But I guess that love knows no bounds. That might be the theme or moral to the story, but then again that area was a bit hairy
ha. But good acting and a somewhat interesting story that keeps you guessing this film gets a well deserved 6/10.

Something is decidedly wrong here, although pinning down the problem proves a bit problematic. First, this is based on 'fact', yet it is quite difficult to believe most of what is happening. I know that tons of bizarre things happen in life, and I don't question the existence of these characters. but the chain of events proves too much to believe. Kidman's character is difficult to like, as is Downey, Jr.'s, so that leaves us with no lead character to identify with. The editing os shoddy and aimless and at times leaves the viewer gasping for direction. This is an intensely interesting story, told by a talented filmmaker in Mr. Shainberg. But a story this bizarre needs an interesting twist in it's manner and style, which 'Fur' does not deliver. I'd recommend watching it anyway, because it is quite a polarizing film deserving of a chance from most people, but this viewer felt left out in the cold.

You don't have to be a big photography fan to be drawn into this atmospheric experience. The editing is great and every stylish frame looks like as if it was taken through the eyes of a calculating photographer. Fur is not a huge film, but it has its own charm.

The potential was there. Photographer Diane Arbus was really an interesting figure. Loosely based on her life, the film deals with her crumbling marriage and her interest in disfigured people, which even leads her to a decadent love affair. Yet in the end the film is very shallow and rather grotesque. I'm sure Nicole Kidman and Robert Downey Jr. regret the day they agreed to be part of this film.
