Profile of Flash Gordon
The mood of Flash Gordon is exciting, suspenseful, and atmospheric. The plot centers around space wars, evil aliens, and androids and robots. It is an action, adventure, and sci-fi movie. In approach, Flash Gordon is fantastical. Visually, it is black and white. It is especially suggested for a family outing and a boys' night.
Summary of Flash Gordon
In this, the first film version of the popular comic strip, a distant planet has broken its orbit and is heading straight for Earth. Renowned scientist Dr. Hans Zarkov builds an escape rocket and is joined by ex-Yale football star Flash Gordon and Dale Arden, a beautiful young woman Flash has just met. They land on the fantastic runaway planet, Mongo, only to tangle with its evil ruler, Ming the Merciless, who has dastardly plans for our three heroes. Crabbe is the quintessential Flash in this 13-episode saga which was made for a then-expensive $350,000, setting a new "adult" standard for the usually more cheaply-made, kiddie-oriented movie serials of the 1930's. Flash's next incarnation was in a 1953 television series.
