Flakes, 2007

It may seem like there isn't much to this slacker romantic comedy - there's a very thin plot revolving around a store that sells nothing but cereal - but there's also some sweet moments, an unabashed criticism of capitalism and some quick-witted dialogue. Zooey Deschanel plays one of her usual kooky characters, but she's well suited for it and does a great job in the role. Aaron Stanford plays his slacker counter-culture type almost too well and he borders on being smug and annoying but he will eventually win you over as the movie progresses. It's short and sweet - a nice, breezy way to spend 80 minutes of your life.
