Mediocre
I didn't see Italian original, but I have a feeling it would be better. This one has a good ensemble of actors, and all manage to disappointed in some level, especially De Niro. He just can't shed away his gangster attitude, even when he plays a retired, lonely widower.
Setting aside the expectations and comparisons, the movie is a fair, and sad, depiction of American family relations, but I expected it to be more emotional.

This movie looked like a comedy from the theatrical trailer, but it should come with a free pack of razor blades... utterly depressing... (not in a good way to me) slow, kind of pedestrian.

This movie did not last long in the theaters but thats not because it wasnt good. Some call this movie boring or depressing. I have to disagree. Yes this is mostly a dialogue driven film but not boring. In fact it was well written. If your a parent this film might serve you better. Honestly I got emtional watching Everybody's Fine but did not find it depressing at all. It's about family and life which make it imperfect and full of emotions. This is a throwback film with nothing flashy but great characters. I can see why it did not do good in the theater. Nobody wants to invest time in this this type of storyline but maybe many should have. A strong four stars.
