Is it really sci-fi?
This movie seems a decent sci-fi at first but then things go bad... well, unspeakable evil is one thing but fountains of blood and weird zombie-like characters popping up around every corner is the other. The movie is really bad - and specifically because at first it seems so good. Big disappointment!

SPOILER ALERT......A rescue crew in space comes to investigate and if possible, rescue a government spaceship gone missing for seven years. When they board the ship, they learn that the ship has been somewhere beyond space and brought something back with it that is an unspeakable evil. I liked this movie very much. Some horror movies I cannot deal with, but this one I liked. I enthusiastically recommend "EVENT HORIZON". KEYWORDS.....Black Hole, Deep Space, Impalement, Psychotic Breaks, Loss Of Loved One, Theoretical Physics, Insanity, Flashbacks, Topless Female Nudity, Corpse, Sick Child, Fall From Heights, Hallucination, Cryonics, Exploding Ship, Chaos, Violence, Suicide, Zero Gravity, Deep Space Rescue, Gory, Broken Back, Levitation, Suspended Animation, Electronic Diary, Diary On Disc, Airlock, Baby Bear, Haunted, Haunting, Madness. I gave EVENT HORIZON a five star rating.

Luscious set design, decent acting, and a very intruguing setup are balanced by predictable plot points later in the movie, and several key concepts that are never really explained. Also, a crewmember or two go mad for no discernable reason, other than that they then get to go into Japanese Overacting Mode. Horror in space, done decent, but not well enough to blast out of its 3-star orbit.

We didn't need this stinker on Blu-ray. The first half of this movie is very good hard sci-fi. At midpoint though it takes an inexplicable turn. The 2nd half of the script/plot seems to be completely unfamiliar with the 1st half, as if they switched...

We didn't need this stinker on Blu-ray. The first half of this movie is very good hard sci-fi. At midpoint though it takes an inexplicable turn. The 2nd half of the script/plot seems to be completely unfamiliar with the 1st half, as if they switched writers and revised the storyboard mid-stream. The 2nd half is worthy of the Cinematic Titanic treatment if they ever run out of material. I like sci-fi. I didn't like Event Horizon.
