Europa Europa, 1990

I rented this film based on a recommendation from a friend. Many believe it is a work of genius. I disagree. While the orginal premise is quite intriguing, the execution is just awful. To say this is a true story, I believe, is pushing the definition of the word "true." Perhaps it is based on a true story. Maybe this man really did pose as a nazi youth in order to survive the Holocaust. But aside from that, the majority of the story plays out as if it was a war tale told by a grandfather to his grandchildren, making it up as he goes along. There are just too many coincidental circumstances for this story to be true. And because of that, it makes me question if any of it is true. Poor acting, awful direction, lousy editing and a hard-to-believe plot line. There are much better films about the Holocaust. This one lacks credibility.
