Bale is captivatingly amazing in this film. The movie is classic Spielberg, combining great sets, stories, and characters. I usually don't love war flicks, but this one is a slice above the rest.

I've loved this movie since I was 11
Christian Bale should have won an Oscar for this performance. You could see from the start that he could reach into your heart, wrench it asunder and make his performance unforgettable. He's a spoiled brat who faces such terrible trauma. And how the adults look out for him, sort of, but as you can see after his initial separation from his parents, Jamie is on his own. He learns the most important lesson in life. "People will do anything for a potato." This is also one of my favorite performances by John Malkovich.

Once you see it, you will never be the same.

Not your typical Spielberg film
This is a very strong and moving coming of age story, as we see how a young boy loses his innocence while he deals with death, survival and danger, as well as separation from his parents. This is a classic, well worth the watch.
