After all the references I'd heard to this movie, and knowing Tim Burton, I was expecting to be impressed, and I was not.
The story is too far-fetched to even be called fantasy. "Fable" is more like it. And the moral of the fable seems to be...

Disappointing
After all the references I'd heard to this movie, and knowing Tim Burton, I was expecting to be impressed, and I was not.
The story is too far-fetched to even be called fantasy. "Fable" is more like it. And the moral of the fable seems to be "it's hard (and therefore dangerous) to be different". That might come as news to someone under the age of six, but for the rest of us it's "Yeah. Knew that."
If you're up for the star-crossed romance, shrug, ok. Seemed trite to me.
It's fun to watch the blooming Depp and the seasoned Weist, but it's a shame that both talents were spent on this script.
Not anything I'd have any interest in seeing again, even if it were for free on TV.

Don't get me wrong, Roger Ebert is one of my favorite critics, but he dropped the ball on this one.
This story of a scissors enabled fellow is fun, strange, and eerily beautiful.
Johnny Depp certainly shows his acting prowess here, bringing life to the character.
The score is another classic from Danny Elfman, making the film that much better.
All in all, if you're a Tim Burton fan, or just want to see a good movie, you won't be let down.

Edward Scissorhands makes for a great character. However, had it not been for Tim Burton's signature style, this movie wouldn't have been half as good. You have the gothic music and visual style (Though not as much of the latter as you'd expect), as well as the quirky story, and of course - Johnny Depp as the star. While you can pretty much guess what the story is about just by reading the title, it is still enjoyable to watch, and required viewing for fans of Burton or Depp. My only wish is that the story of Mr. Scissorhands had been brought to a more satisfying conclusion. You'll probably be left unfulfilled - I feel like there should have been a epilogue at the end, in the very least. Still, I liked this a lot, and I think you will too.

This movie is incredibly touching. It'd been a long while since I'd seen it, and the fact that it still moved me is wonderful. Vincent Price as the Inventor could not have been more perfectly cast, and Johnny Depp as Edward is easily one of his best performances. The themes in this movie were dealt with beautifully and the overall presentation was done well. Possibly Tim Burton's best film.

Fantastic film!
Fantastic is a word that can be used in more than one way in regard to "Edward Scissorhands." This is a beautiful romantic fantasy that is sentimental and touching. By the end of the movie you'll realize how fantastic it really is. Exceptional acting by Depp in the role of a social misfit. His unique character requires delicate treatment from the actor, and Depp does that and much more. Don't be surprised to find a tear in your eye. This film is most certainly a must see.
