As I was watching Dreamcatcher, I kept wondering if I would have understood what was going on if I hadn't first read Stephen King's novel. It's a pretty decent adaptation of the book, though it has some significant shortcomings. The worst part is the ending, which is a cheesy, embarassing revision of King's ending. (Admittedly, King's ending is weak and doesn't live up to the quality of the rest of his novel.) Interestingly, the ending turns out not to be director Kasdan's original ending. Among the special features on the DVD is the original ending he shot, which was infinitely superior to the one he used and much more faithful to King's story. If I were you, I'd turn off the movie when it gets to the scene in which Henry enters the reservoir building and confronts Jonesy/Mr. Grey. Then switch to the special features and watch the original ending. You'll be much happier. The other problems are that the aliens in humanoid form are really cheesy and that Morgan Freeman is not the best actor for the role he plays. It's an interesting move to cast him against type, but it doesn't really work.

Confusing! Confusing! Confusing! The director could have done a better job.Situations handled very badly and subplots confuse you even further.

Not the most brilliant movie ever, but
gets the job done. I have no complains for films that gives me ugly hostile aliens who wants to take over the world (except maybe "Signs"). if you liked "Alien" you might enjoy this one too.
