I don't have much to add to the better reviews already posted except to say how much I agree. I was scared silly -- but not so much I had nightmares. A perfect balance. And boy Morse is really good at being creepy.

I saw this way before I saw 'Rear Window' and if I had written this when I did, I would have given it a solid 4 stars, mostly for the creepiness of it all. It is still creepy, but I really can't say it is anything like what it's being compared to; it's in a league of its own, so to speak, with a few similarities. When Kale (Shia Lebeouf... the beef, how silly!) goes under house arrest, he is subject to doing nothing but sitting at home all day, every day, until it is removed. So, what better to do than observe your neighbors? (I know I would!) While observing one... fascinating neighbor, things go completely awry (of course!). It took a while to develop the story, but once it had gotten on its feet, it became a rapid-fire succession of great scene after great scene until you're left thinking 'Wow, that was awesome!' As much as I liked this movie, it really isn't for everyone, especially for any fan of Rear Window for its blatant attempt to modernize it. 3.5 stars from this awesomeredhead! 2/19/09

Everybody hates remakes, especially of classics that we've loved for years, and I am no exception. However I allowed myself to enjoy it and am glad I did. "Disturbia" didn't just steal "Rear Window" and add cell phones nor did they disgrace the original by ignoring what made it so successful; the classic Hitchcock suspense is still there but with a modern feel. Though the real savior of this movie was the acting of Shia LaBeouf and David Morse; LaBeouf adds a realism to his character that makes him so easy to relate to, Morse does a great job of playing a shady character who balances on the line of neighbor vs killer without giving anything away too early, and the scenes with both of them are tense. There are flaws but give this remake a chance, you may actually enjoy it.

Much better than it has any right to be, "Disturbia" benefits not only from LeBouf's much touted acting chops but from superb editing. Scenes which would be only passably affecting in a normal film of this type turn out to be jarringly frightening (the garage scene, especially.) Things fall apart in the final 20 minutes as the film devolves into typical horror schlock, but so long as "Disurbia" is trying only to disturb (it fails when it tries to scare) it succeeds on every level.

A well-acted suspense yarn, "Disturbia" is an interesting update to Hitchcock's "Rear Window" that offers appealing characters, some teen romance and even some chills. Basically, a high school kid who gets into a scrape is confined to his home and monitored by ankle transmitter. Boredom drives him to observe his neighbors closely (particularly a cute young thing whose family moved next door), and then to, well, spy on them with binoculars. When his suspicions are aroused by a secretive neighbor who might be a serial killer, things get dicey. There's a kind of suburban realism to this tale, and it all goes down quite easily.

Disturbia
This movie has so many problems. I thought the acting was on par to day time television drama and the dialog was about the same. I know its a remake of 'Rear Window', which I haven't seen, but I'm pretty sure the original didn't have such a contrived plot. Overall the movie had a couple good thrill moments, but on a whole was too poorly written and acted for me to recommend.
