worth a watch
all in all, well made and entertaining, but the some of the slapstick comedy was overkill in my book.

Steve Martin plays a detective in the 1930's, on the case of Rachel Ward's father, the cheese maker. Yeah.. you heard that right - and it's pretty funny too. The movie is in black and white, and intersperses B&W clips from old 1930 movies and famous actors (if you know that era) to create the story. It's all pretty witty and very funny, Martin is great to watch and funny (as opposed to his Pink Panther). The clips from the old movies are fun, but they really don't add all that much story wise, they're all generic scenes but they're fun nonetheless. Rachel Ward is great, and Reiner as the commandant at the end is pretty good too (poor Terre Haute). The beginning is a bit slow, but it gets funnier as it goes along - Carlos at the end chasing Martin with his pajamas had me laughing. It's not slapstick humor but more tongue in cheek, and if you're into that and you can handle B&W then this is pretty good.

If you are not a fan of the genre and you don't know who Ingrid Bergman was, you won't enjoy it as much.
