Summary of Coming Out
Truly a landmark film, Coming Out is billed as the first and only motion picture dealing wiht homosexuality ever produced in communist East Germany. The story centers on Philipp, who was heavily attracted to his best friend throughout childhood, but has now left that behind in order to fit into "normal" society. After moving in with a shy, attractive girl that he genuinely cares for, he finds himself uncontrollably falling for a young man he meets while standing in line for concert tickets. The crux of the plot focuses on Philipp's emotional turmoil as he comes to grips with his own burgeoning sexuality.
