I almost made it through the Alfred Molina sketch before I decided to get my computer and write a review about how bad this movie was. Wu-Tang and Bill Murray ("Delirium") are making things better with actual interesting dialogue as I write so I'm upping the rating to two stars. The other star was for Cate Blanchett's dual role sketch ("Cousins"). Skip to these two sketches and you maybe won't feel like you wasted an hour with stilted conversation and bad acting.

Good in parts. The trailer offered more, and in fact there are a number of scenes that are very clever and engaging, interspersed between scenes that are FFWD fodder.

The idea of this movie is wonderful so I wanted very badly to like it. The notion that great (or bad) conversation happens over coffee and cigarettes is both simple and poignant. However the movie turns out to be way too forced and pretentious for its own good. In my opinion the movie would have benefited greatly from being unscripted allowing the conversation to flow organically.

I wanted to like it but I didn't. It's boring, overly self-aware, pretentious and overly flippant. Jarmusch thinks he can 'say something' by being simply irreverent, when in point of fact he is really saying nothing at all. Just having people talk...

I wanted to like it but I didn't. It's boring, overly self-aware, pretentious and overly flippant. Jarmusch thinks he can 'say something' by being simply irreverent, when in point of fact he is really saying nothing at all. Just having people talk can make a comment on only one thing, and that thing is conversation. If I wanted to learn about conversation, I'd go find a friend and have one.
