Really bad with the dubbing. Couldnt finish it. Would have been great to hear (read the subtitles of) the original.

This film will have much more meaning to viewers who have seen the series, "City of Men" - of which this is much more of a sequel than "City of God." Sure, there are flashback scenes from the series to give you an idea of who the two main characters are & what they've been through, but it's not the same as watching the series and literally seeing the two characters grow up over the years. But even without that background, this is a powerful and engaging film, and well worth seeing.

I know many people have already reviewed this saying the same thing, but Im SO disappointed that this movie is dubbed in English! Its an insult to the actors who have taken time to rehearse and put emotion into their lines. It takes away the authenticity of the film. I cant take dubbed films seriously! And to people who like dubbed movies because they dont want to read while watching a film, please then dont watch foreign movies. But then youre missing out on about 70% of films that are made outside the western world. Just read subtitles, people! The movies not the same when its dubbed. ok, Im done ranting. I really wanted to see this movie instantly! damn.

Company people, if you ever read users reviews, please please please dont do this (dubbed movies instead of original with subtitles) again... its very frustrating.

8/10Great
Like the earlier film, "City of God," and like the 19-episode Brazilian TV series also called "City of Men," this film is bursting with life and energy. Now its heroes, Acerole and Laranjinha, whom we've watched growing up, are turning 18 and know they have to put aside some of their childhood pursuits to take up adulthood. The film is positively Shakesperian in its focus on fatherhood and meeting, or not meeting its responsibilities. Acerole love his kid Clayton but isn't exactly the most responsible father, and Larinjinha once again is on a quest to find his real father, who abandoned him. The sins of the fathers come back to haunt the kids, with a vengeance. And of course these themes are set inside the background of the drug-dealing, gang-ridden favella slum in Rio; the gangs are alternate families, with their leaders and paters familiases. It's all primal, life as it's really lived, and near tragic. Well-written, better scripted than its predecessors, and well-acted, this is one fine film. I can't wait until we next see the lead actors on screen.
