As one of the few people in the theatre when this film came out, I loved it. A brilliant film which deserved more consideration come oscar time. Clive Owen gives a great performance as the emotionally drained Theo. During the extremely long takes of the film we are left to see everything around us, and follow almost seamlessly as a member of their party. With stunning visuals and spellbinding camera work Children of Men is a lesson in film, and should be required for every films student around the world.

Wow this film was good. The action/chase scenes are terrifying. Really sets you on the edge of your seat.

4/10Disappointing
I love Cuaron's earlier spanish films and I came into this one with high expectations. I appreciate the realistic cinematography and direction but the plot didnt do much for me. The entire film felt like an excellent setup for a much better story that happens after its over. Take away the dystopian backdrop and you have little more than one long chase that involves a lot of guns and running. Oh, and a baby. Now that I mentioned it, this baby is incredibly creepy and obviously not real. I guess it would have been too dangerous to use a real one but this thing reminded me of that dancing baby that was so disturbing a few years ago. I dont really understand why so many people loved this, I do however understand how people can hate it. For me its just another movie that I'll forget in a week.

9/10Amazing
I can honestly say this film defines the decade 2000-2009. Unremittingly bleak, the movie explores the loss of hope in humanity. WIth well-done shaky-cam photography, eerie soundtrack and and a set design to rival the "total reality" in a Clockwork Orange or 2001. Its greatest strength lies in its prescient treatment of "hot topics" such as immigration, euthanasia, and terrorism. Interesting how in a world where children can no longer be born, society is even more interested in killing themselves, (Quietus, You decide when). INTERESTING DETAIL (for film analyzers). The painting Guernica, hanging in Theo's cousin's dinner room to the left of Gossip Girl guy, is very similar to a mural painted in the boat dock at the end of the film where Marica stays behind. A very appropriate choice to represent Theo's entrance and exit from the chaos of the story.

Visually, this was one of the most arresting films I've ever seen. It makes me understand what seeing Apocalypse Now must have been like when it debuted. The acting is first rate and the direction is amazing. The only problem is the script. This is an immersive film that does a great job of dropping you into another world. However, very little time or direction is given to the circumstances that arose to give birth to this world without children. As such, it's difficult to judge the politics of the warring factions and may be difficult for some to relate to the protagonists. But that might be the point. To me this film was about seeing the individuals in a world where everything is identified by type, group or status. Seeing the characters as individuals and the appreciation of an everyday miracle in a world where these miracles have ceased seemed to be the point to me.

I enjoyed the movie, but really question the motives of the makers of the movie. My suggestion would be to watch the movie and take it for what it is...a story. Don't watch the special feature documentary unless you just want to get pissed off by the illogical content. It is more slanted than a Michael Moore film. If you are a non-individualist or have a communist leaning you would absolutely enjoy it.

I thought the movie did end abruptly. We don't get to see who or what the "Human Project" is, so they better have a sequel. I also like how they left it up to the viewer to decide why the world in 2027 is in chaos. I took it as the "Moral Decay" of our society and the devalue of life.
Don't bother watching the extra feature documentary thing. It's basically Al Gore's movie repackaged.

A little short at 1hr and 45 min. this film has been knocked for not explaining everything details to the viewers but this did not ruin the movie exerience for me. This is film that will hold up over many years.

Best future dystopia movie ever. Not that I'm a big fan of the genre, but I really appreciated this particular grim vision of the not too distant future, perhaps because it seemed so plausible. It truly resembles what the world might look like in 20 years if society were to start crumbling now. The catalyst for this social decay (an infertility pandemic) is essentially unimportant, which is probably why the movie doesn't try to fully explain how it happened. The important thing to take away from this story is the message of hope that somehow, amidst all this chaos, someone will emerge to take the first step towards fixing the situation, even if that person is a jaded pacifist (Clive Owen) who's long since given up on the world. Of course, the real reason to see this film is for the amazingly effective, you-are-there style of camerawork. The long cut scenes, particularly the one in the car (you'll know it when you see it), are especially impressive.
