The first reason to watch this movie is Phillip Seymor Hoffmanns role as Gust Avrakotos a very competent and very annoying CIA agent.
Otherwise this has a great cast, tells an exciting and inteligent story, is filmed very well, and doesn't do anything wrong at all.

This movie is worth the price of admission just for one of the ending scenes. They are celebrating a victory party at Wilson's condo and Gust, Hoffman's character, is imploring Wilson to continue to fund the Afgans even after the Soviets rolled out. Why give them money for development? The answer comes with beauty and subtlety: the camera closes in on Hanks face as we hear the whine of airliner flying overhead.
Anyone who is watching this movie knows what that means and the way they understated it was simple genious.

Charlie Wilson's War is an interesting film with a great cast that play even better characters. Philip Seymour Hoffman is a madman and Tom Hanks is a boozing womanizer. I recommend this film but as the movie progressed the storyline went to fast and seemed rushed. The last 35 min. of the film while entertaining just didnt live up to the first half of the film. You might like it more than me and for the record I liked the film but it's nothing amazing and worth a onetime viewing if you are a fan of any of the actors listed here. It was a shorter film than I expected but a least it was not filled with boring garbage and was worth my time.

Arguably, this film is actually confusing unless you are already vaguely familiar with it's source material.

Tom Hanks manages to make a slippery character -- one whose actions you'd normally condemn -- into an extraordinarily likable and complex guy. The story is engaging enough to ignore that a lot of the true-life events must have been ramped up Hollywood style for the sake of the movie. This one goes by pretty fast.

Charlie Wilson wins his war.
A combination of humor, politics, sex, and intelligence made this the best new movie I've seen in a long time. The cast and supporting actors all deliver; this is Hollywood at its best. Charlie Wilson's War is a clever and insightful film, but it's also really funny. Its smart without being elitist... a real classic.
That aside, don't go see this movie expecting a shoot' em up action thriller. There are talking head scenes, so if you loved "transformers", "bring it on", or "bad boys 2", then Charlie Wilson's War probably is not for you. This is definitely a BYOB (bring your own brain) picture.

there were intersting and funny parts in this film, but quite alot boring parts as well. at some point they made me move inconveniently in my seat, hoping for something interesting to happen, or at least for the film to end. it contains mostly politics, shows the USA's behaviour and the mistakes that have been made. of course, been based on true stories and events, makes it a bit more thought provoking. it was a little hard for me to connect it but others may find it worth watching.
