"Chaos Theory" is actually a fine classic screwball comedy. Loved all that part of it here. However, recent TV formulas take over at the end. Soppy sentiments, whose emotional intent is broadcast loudly with soft pop songs strumming about tender feelings you may not have figured out in your own presumed Sparks-notes brain, smoosh what a classic screwball comedy would have dispatched in a crafty slapstick-sweet couple of minutes, perhaps even a freeze-frame. All right, it's the sweet and nice contemporary formula for endings these days, but that high-energy comedic momentum sure gets lost on the way to the last ten yards. Yeah, some people will love it all the more for that---I didn't. But THE VERY GOOD NEWS IS that it's full of the farce, confused identities, and misunderstandings that define the genre: seemingly sane people acting a bit silly, building up to flurry of goofy shouting and running around, gently satirizing some social standards of the day. You'll have a good time with that part---textbook screwball. And the ending really isn't awful, just very fourth-network. 2.09

Not bad. I think I may be rating it a little bit too high, but it deserves it. Chaos Theory is about a guy who plans out his every moment, until one thing changes it all. He realizes that he has wasted too much time planning, and not done enough to be spontaneous. It isn't so much a romance, as it is him rethinking his life, his family and his job as a motivational type of speaker. It's a sweet story that is great at the beginning and end, but struggles a tiny bit in the middle. Ryan Reynolds delivers a solid performance here.
