If you've read the book, don't watch this movie. This is a great story. As a movie, it should be better. Mr. Spielberg makes this movie about 30 minutes too long. But I found the story so fascinating that after I saw it, I read the book to find out how true to life the movie was. If you like this movie, don't read the book. I now think a lot less of the movie. I want to strangle the guy who hired the script doctor. It's impossible to know how much of the book is true, given that it is the autobiography of an admitted liar. However, Mr. Abagnale wrote himself a snappy and entertaining little life story there in that book, and I'm angry at what the filmmakers chose to add and modify. The parts they added to the end of the movie do add to the story, but the parts they added to the beginning, oh my, they are awful. So here's the deal: if you haven't read the book, you can rent this movie, and you'll likely be entertained (and you'll be greatful that you can pause the DVD for bathroom breaks). But then, don't read the book afterwards. And if you've read the book, skip the movie.

Despite all the positive reviews let me add the first negative. The plot just couldn't get up enough steam to keep me interested. Performances are ok, but nobody is stretching. Lots of money was put into production values, but perhaps should've gone...

This movie was cool from start to finish. Even the score was great -- reminiscent of the Pink Panther. The story is so unbelievable that you have to keep reminding yourself that it's TRUE! DeCaprio and Hanks are both terrific. An absolute MUST SEE!!!
