Catch and Release is a film about a fiancé who dies and doesn?t tell anyone about his child with a woman he was seeing during his run with the girl he?s about to marry. The movie starts off slow and half way into it when the mother and the kid come down to collect what?s theirs. There is only a hand full of laughs, caused by the hilarious Kevin Smith, a.k.a. Silent Bob a.k.a. my idol. Sadly he should not quit his day job as a director, for he wasn?t really acting. He played himself basically, adding in a few sirs and Star Wars references, which kind of turned me off. The ending is really predictable which is extremely bad in this case because what the audience wants to happen doesn?t. But the story does keep you interested long enough to wonder how it?s going to get from point A to point B. And that?s why I give Catch and Release a

Premise: Jennifer Garner is the widow who's not technically a widow who finds that having premarital sex with the deceased doesn't get your name in the will, and she has a habit of sleeping with men she hardly knows. She's a baffling character, with incomprehensible motivations. They don't really justify her choice of love interest very well.
Plot: sad beginning, lots of funny middle stuff, and "happy" ending.
Bottom line: it made me laugh. This movie is worth seeing for Kevin Smith alone. He is a comedic genius.

OK, there are large plot problems and character problems; there are nonsense motivations and the characters make ridiculous decisions. But truly, for the kind of film this is, it is quite enjoyable. Why? Kevin Smith, that's why. This guy is a gifted actor! Who knew?! Sure, he pretty much plays himself, but it's still quite a joy to watch. The plot, although incredibly contrived, is fun enough, if you don't think about it. At all.
