Oh, the drama! Listen: the lives are addicts are dramatic as hell, it's true. I was one. But holy moly, this film really wants to point that out. The drama (melodrama, really) is so quick and constant that the film is hard to watch. A few of my friends and I who have been through the addiction wringer often talk about how we should make movies out of our lives; but I can tell you, if I were ever to write a screenplay of my life (I'm not going to) I would include less drama than quiet, more contemplation than screaming, and an occasional landscape shot. Not that I wouldn't include screaming, intense drama and lots of dark interiors, but if you want your audience to be with you during the hard parts, you have to give them easy parts, too. Not only is it just easier to watch, but it's alot easier for us to know the characters of human beings if we can watch them having some carefree, tender moments amongst the din. For instance, once, in the third year of my addiction, I went to a circus. I had fun!
