Say hello to national healthcare. Shows America as more socialist, poorer, and with a hideous centralized healthcare system. Very little seems american, but very little of America seems American anymore anyway.

Blindness is based on the 1995 novel by Nobel winning Portuguese author José Saramago. Unlike the novel, however, this film is unable to capture the psychological explorations that flow so naturally from its premise. The cinematography and visuals were interesting enough to keep me watching, but not closely enough to distinguish the main cause of this movie's problems. It is hard to say whether the acting or dialog is chiefly to blame, but certainly the combination of the two amounts to a missed opportunity.

I thought this movie would of been a bit more in it than there was. It left alot to be desired even tho the movie was stating the fact of survival and what a person is willing to do for that cause I just see myself especially as a person who can see vs those around me not...It wouldnt have gone as far as it took her to end the dominate scences...Julianne Moore was a excellent choice for this role and I think she did an awesome job acting in this move yet I tend to wonder as to the reason the blindness began much less ended as suddenly as it did. It did unfortuantly leave me wanting in alot of areas it seems to drag in some and yet rush others. I rate this movie a basic OK...but not theater price worth it.

This movie is pretty horrible. Primarily, it suffers from a lack of imagination. That is a failure to properly mind game a world where everyone is blind. The setup isn't believable, the events that follow display a writer who had a cool idea, and slapped a generic apocalypse setting to it, without even doing any research into apocalypses or human psychology in such a situation. Could have been a very thought provoking movie. Instead it just makes you angry at lost potential. Oh, and the acting... Horrible.

Good idea, bad movie
This movie is based on a very good idea: If everyone in a society goes blind, what does that do to people? Will the person that was blind before this happened be the "master" of the new society? And what position does this give to the few who still can see? How will people react when put into an extreme situation like this?
Unfortunately the movie fails on lots of big plot mistakes, which means the answers it is trying to give also fails big time.
You are probably better off reading the book instead.

I liked the idea of the film. Everyone in the city goes blind for unknown reasons, which are never explained, and we see how everyone handles the situation (not very well). Society falls apart and we are left watching a group of people united together as a small community supporting one another. After the film was finished, I was left unsatisfied with the entire story because I wanted to know the source of what was causing people to be blind.

Before watching Blindness I would recommend watching the special features on the dvd, which in my opinion helped me understand the movie a little better going into it. The movie is about two hours long, the first half is chaos filled and isolated while the second half shows how the rest of the world has responded to the sudden blindness epidemic. This isn't a movie for every one, there are some disturbing scenes and a very high level of intensity throughout the film. I look forward to recommending this movie to some of my friends.
