Meaningless Success
Stylistically nearly flawless, and wholly successful in provoking the emotions for which it aims. Natalie Portman is sensational. Highly disturbing.
Naturally, I found these emotions unpleasant. It wasn't the sort of unpleasant that one accepts because in being so, it transmits new ideas and challenges stale ones. It was just...very successfully, beautifully unpleasant.
In a sense, I hated it; but it succeeds so well that I ended up putting it halfway between two extremes.

Surreal & Amazing!
Genial movie!
It is absolutely the strongest movie that I've seen. It is very intense, surreal, psychological & disturbing drama.. it keeps you "in it" till the end.
The plot is simply amazing, it has a strong weave between the plot and the "Swan lake" ballet. To understand the movie completely, you need to look deeper, to know the story of this ballet...
Moreover, Natalie Portman's is superb!

A film that made no sense, has no plot WHATSOEVER besides the fact that the girl is crazy, and is genuinely disturbing. Shock scenes are there just for the sake of it, and the characters are so one...

A film that made no sense, has no plot WHATSOEVER besides the fact that the girl is crazy, and is genuinely disturbing. Shock scenes are there just for the sake of it, and the characters are so one dimensional it's laughable.
Overall, though, I found this film to be sick and disturbing and think that anyone who genuinely liked watching this movie must have an inkling of the same qualities about them.

This film wasnt exactly what I expected, having only heard people talk of it, while avoiding everything written about it. It was tense, and off-putting, but somehow still interesting. Tonally, it had some trouble when it came to the question of whether to make this The Wrestler for ballet, or whether to make this Requiem for a Queen. The director decided to go somewhere in between, and there-in lies the off-putting part. I give films more of a chance than the rest of the audience, but I can sense which parts of a movie are going to get to other people more than will affect me. This one will sit with you for a while in the pit of your stomach, & Id personally be interested in seeing it again. There is something within Black Swan that makes it an obvious cult film, one that youll be unable to watch just once. Natalie Portman does a phenomenal job, and is very anti what youve come to expect from her. Subtly, she reaches a new stage in her career. Please god dont let her turn back now.

The Black Swan
Black Swan is a movie about a 20 something year old ballerina (Natalie Portman) named Nina who is replacing (Winona Ryder) for the company lead in Swan Lake. She is giving the part after the director tells Nina she is to technical and doesn’t let go and tells her she needs to let go sexually and begins to kissing Nina, who bites his tongue. The director ends up giving Nina the part of the Swan Queen. She is scrutinized by fellow dancers for being a “Slut” and by the director for still not understanding the role. Regardless the show continues she is paraded infront of the theatre patrons and pushed even harder during practice. Her mental stability begins to break down and she begins to think Lily is after her role. To add to the Mayhem Nina’s mother a former dancer is constantly on Nina’s back treating her like a child. One night Nina snaps when Lily comes over and invites her out clubbing she accepts the invite and the two go out for a wild night of drinking, drugs, and promiscuity. Nina begins to think Lily is after her role but is told otherwise Nina begins having serious delusions and is self destructing. The movie concludes with the show and total chaos as Nina turns into the black swan and finally explodes.
All around I thought the movie was fantastic. Darren Aronofsky is one of my all time favorite directors he is just brilliant at making a train wreck look like a fireworks show. It’s too bad he can’t get the right to make a movie about Lindsey Lohan. Seriously though the cinematography in this movie is just stunning with flowing tracking shots, free hand shaking shots which give the movie its delusional appearance and just incredible plot revealing shots. One thing that Darren uses great in the film is the use of color while simple (black and white) he uses it perfectly to really display the state of the character. Another thing that is used well is the art and music within the film which turn the movie into the gorgeous reworking of Swan Lake and shows the corruption of modern times. I thought the plot was fantastic and chaos theory like displaying all facets of the film down to the most microbial level. The acting is well done especially Natalie Portman’s role and the women that plays her mother. Natalie is very convincing as the psychologically distraught Nina who is falling apart and becomes almost skeletal. I would definitely call The Black Swan one of my favorite films and recommend it to others.

The movie is stylized, dull and obedient to the common sense and common aesthetics. It's an enlarged, verbalistic approach to a very specific experience. It has a couple of nice moments but mostly it does not meet the standards that had been set before by Aronofsky himself. It is carefully filmed but it does not go over the 'A+ student's project'. Nothing enticing or captivating about this movie. It is well-made, clean-cut but it lacks in content.
It is like these generic best-seller books, following every successful norm and demand, covering every possibly shocking idea with eye-candy and sex.

Probably Aronofsky's best
I'm not a fan of movies that revolve around dancing (and especially not movies that revolve around Ballet and ballerinas), but this movie was absolutely great. It's more about obsession, and the search for perfection that it is about dancing....

I'm not a fan of movies that revolve around dancing (and especially not movies that revolve around Ballet and ballerinas), but this movie was absolutely great. It's more about obsession, and the search for perfection that it is about dancing. Natalie Portman who looks as skiny as a skeleton in the movie gives here a captivating performance that is no less than Oscar worthy.

The critics are having a field day with this one. I don’t think the story, actors or portrayal of characters could have gotten much better reviews than they already had. I was a bit nervous to see it, because honestly it looks a bit freaky. Well, I was right. And there goes my image of Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis being good little girls. Maybe this is the 50 yr old father in me, but who knew. It was scary to watch, and to see these characters come to life. The dancing was beautiful, as was the backdrop. Good movie that definitely shocked me the way it promised it would, it really delivered.
