Black Sheep, 2006

Easily the best Kiwi flick about killer mutant sheep ever made and the best barnyard-animals-run-amok story since "Barn of the Blood Llamas." This is a horror-comedy in the tradition of early Peter Jackson. See it... you'll never look at lamb chops the same way again!

When I initially heard about this movie, I figured it would rank somewhere between so bad its good and entertaining enough after a few drinks. I must say I was pleasantly surprised, the premise of zombie were sheep is a good enough premise to generate laughs while still providing enough horror fun. The film starts off strong with lots of laughs and quality special effects. There are a lot of jokes to be made here between hippies, sheep and the usual horror gags. While many of these jokes are predictable they are still well executed. The first two thirds of the movie were excellent and sometimes unexpectedly hilarious. There really is something sublime about an ominous shot of sheep advancing. Unfortunately, the last third of the movie cuts down on the jokes and focuses more on gore. I have no problem with gore, but it did feel a bit forced. The gore was no longer a component of the humor but instead it was gore for gore's sake. That being said, if you are looking for a light fun romp of a horror movie this is just what the doctor ordered.
