Pretty enjoyable to watch
This is an epic adventure based on the fictional book Beowulf. It follows the adventures of Beowulf as he battles demonic monsters and rises to power. The movie is animated, but it is for adults and the animation is state of the art. The effects of the animation are amazing and this movie is entrancing to watch throughout most of it. The story is a typical adventure and the script is average as well, but the amazing animation and battle scenes more than make up for it. Most of the acting is decent for what it is, there was only one actress whose acting I found irritating, which was the main queen character.

Pretty Cool...
Id never taken the time to read the story, but they did quite good with the movie.
The animation was great, the plot was captivating. A sparsely dressed Angelina Jolie Monster never hurts either.

Dreadful misintrepretations and outright distortions, even beyond what one expects in a Hollywood treatment. The computer generated "actors" looked enough like their human counterparts to make their appearance wierd. What I mean is that they all looked somehow like they had marginally sucessful plastic surgery. The murge of live actors with computer backgrounds was much more successful in the film 300. Bottom line: this was a tiresome, almost two hour, exercise in redundant, pointless visual excess. Skip it.

I've seen worse movies, I'm just having trouble thinking of any right now. The 2nd half was better than the first half, but by that point I could do nothing but point and laugh. I still can't believe I actually finished it.

I really like how they pulled apart the myths and turned the heroes on the heads with the villains being a good deal of the focus. They changed the story to be less about the great evils of the world and the magnificent force it takes to expel them....

I really like how they pulled apart the myths and turned the heroes on the heads with the villains being a good deal of the focus. They changed the story to be less about the great evils of the world and the magnificent force it takes to expel them. It's more about the subtle forces that move men and create great tales from vanity.
It destroys the original in good form. The problem is, it's a bit too shallow in its execution. All in all, this 2 hour movie only manages to expose 3 or 4 characters and not even that well. There isn't nearly enough dialog and no one you can really relate to either. The movie looks incredible in 3-d, but that only goes so far.
You can fake depth all day long, but this movie lacks it epically.

I HAD to see this movie (I needed bonus points on my test, okay? hah). We had just finished reading the poem in class when this movie came out (Hallelujah!) and I wasn't really expecting what I got! All the visuals I ever had while reading the story...

I HAD to see this movie (I needed bonus points on my test, okay? hah). We had just finished reading the poem in class when this movie came out (Hallelujah!) and I wasn't really expecting what I got! All the visuals I ever had while reading the story seemed to project themselves onto the screen and I was pleasantly surprised the way this movie was made (CG). It was so out of the ordinary, and yet you don't even really notice it because that is how good the CG is. Going into this movie, I was not excited that Angelina Jolie was playing Grendel's mother because you get a much different view of her in the poem as an ugly beast, but Angelina did a fine job either way. The special effects of this film are pretty mind blowing and for any action fiend at heart, this is a great movie for you! 1/8/09

To be viewed beside 300 and the Lords Trilogy. Within 20 minutes I forgot the fact that I was watching A CGI film and just was hooked by the storyline. I expected this to have great special effects but a boring plot. I was happy to be wrong and was hooked right away and I can only hope others with give this film a chance before prejudging it since it is animated. I judge a film based on it's entertainment and script. Along with In the Valley of Elah this film ranks as a gem in 07. THIS IS NOT FOR THE YOUNG and the opening scene drives that point home but this is an adult fantasy that keeps you hooked till the end. Before I knew who was in this film I correctly guessed who was who since the CGI was dead on with thier real life counterparts. I can see this film gaining alot of attention in the DVD market and having a cult like following. Some films have no repeat viewing in them but I could watch this film tommorrow with someone who has not seen it before. I feel like a giddy fanboy talking about Beowulf but I can honestly say that I loved this film and hope others discover it's amazing world and see what beauty I found in it. Beowulf truly is an epic to stand beside the Lords of the Rings Trilogy and 300. I can't wait to see what other films are going to be made with this type of CGI. We can now bring back actors who have passed away like River Phonix and make movies they would have starred in if they were alive today.
