Brilliant film. This is not a man of low intelligence. We are left to wonder just as the other characters are left to wonder. He is not dishonest, and yet he responds when an unintelligent man would have no opinion. There are elements of captialist and possibly objectivist philosophy. Mr and Mrs. Rand? One eyed pyramid? Not a coincidence about all the political scenarios.

Startlingly good. Now see, I don't know too much about whatever issues the filmmakers were tackliong here, and certainly there are issues being tackled, both political and cultural. What I do know for sure is that Sellers crafted one of the most perfect, detailed characters I've ever seen, and played him with a uniformity and depth I have rarely witnessed. The soundtrack, as well, is more well-suited to it's subject matter than any I have previously witnessed. Pay attention to the music here: it is truly as spellbiding as what you are seeing on screen. The film's final scene is bold, daring, completely unexpected and one hundred percent perfect. I cannot believe how good this movie is!

A biting satire
A biting satire showing how over thinking and over analyzing is all too prevalent. A simple gardener who has never left his masters house since he was a boy and learned only from what he saw on television is suddenly thrust into the world when his master dies. Watching Chance, played by Peter Sellers, be captivated by television is both humorous and unnerving. Are we any different than Chance; simply spitting out what we are fed by the media? Or perhaps we are the rest of the people in this film, who cling to Chance's every utterance as if they were something profound and meaningful simply because he appears as though he would know what he was talking about. This is a great movie, that will both make you laugh, and think. That is a special combination.

The movie shows how a simple man (maybe even retarded) can rise to the top and come to be regarded as one of the smartest people in the country. The guy is slow, some would say autistic, but the politicians think of him as a genius who can lead the country. Sentimental and funny, this is a movie for everyone.
