Profile of Beauty and the Beast
Beauty and the Beast can be described as stylized and feel good. The plot revolves around outward appearances, true love, and young lovers. The main genres are romance, family, and fantasy. In terms of style, Beauty and the Beast is fairytale-like. In approach, it is fantastical and serious. It is set, at least in part, in a palace, castle, or temple. Beauty and the Beast takes place in the 1960s. It is drawn from a folktale and based on a book. It is well suited for a family outing.
Summary of Beauty and the Beast
Prince Eduardo (Mark Damon) has a bit of a problem. Once a handsome prince, he has now been reduced to a lupine man-beast. His affliction is the result of a sorcerer's curse and can only be undone by the true love of a fair maiden. Enter Althea (Joyce Taylor), the lovely princess who is betrothed to the non-beast-like version of Eduardo. To live happily after, Althea must learn to accept Eduardo -- whether or not he sheds all over the castle furniture -- and stave off the ambitious advances of the sinister Prince Bruno. A retelling of the classic tale, regarded for its lavish production design (by Franz Bachelin of STALAG 17 and JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH fame).
