Come on, one star folks? Thats reserved for some of the REALLY low budget films no one has heard of. Is this great cinema? No, but I dont think anyone ever acused it of that. It has just as much of a plot as many B- action flics and actually had a plot twist or two I wasnt totally expecting from the outset.
Watch this movie if you are in the mood for a semi-predictable action movie demonstrating the inherant superiority of primative humans to the rest of the galaxy. Dont come expecting a lot and youll probably be in for an enjoyable and laughable two hours.

I know everyone from Roger Ebert (half a star) to John Scalzi (Oh my, YES, Battlefield Earth is bad, and not just the standard issue sort of bad, like, say, a Matthew Perry comedy; this one is the Grade A, genuinely epic sort of bad that fills movie critics' hearts with glee, because now they can be especially creative in their condemnation.). But people are missing the camp.
The book is campy, and the film is campy x infinity. It may be one of the worst films ever made, but it celebrates its source material, and actually brings it to lifedrecky, stinking, campy life. This film is so bad that it's wildly entertaining in a way that only a truly awful film trying to be a truly great film can be. Do not see this film! (But if you do, prepare to laugh yourself silly.)

Wait, I mean, I LOVED RETURNING THIS MOVIE, because it was so dreadfully terrible. Every time I saw the aliens with their laughably-oversized rubber hands I shuddered and wept. Not for me, but for all mankind.

I know the movie has cheesy dialog, and sure the story is a little cheesy as well, but I think John Travolta played a good bad guy.
I thought that the plot was kinda cool, and how instead of evolving forward in time humans went to cavemen types...

Why so much negativity? How can a story about the overthrow of an entire race, a millenium into the future, be squeezed into two hours without some ommision, or reliance on some imagination? Watch it for simple entertainment value and enjoy.
