It was a beauitfully done flick. It's great for the whole family. Full of action, full of morality. Great suprises. I highly recommend this film.

As fan of some of the the vivid, occasionally retro-trippy stylings of previous Batmans, I had to move on and take this on its own merits. The archetypal Batman palimpsest has the previous hieroglyphics scraped off, with traces remaining, for the use of our new age. Taking off Somerset Maugham's "Razor's Edge," a newly serious young hero travels to the Far East and flounders on the margins there seeking meaning from life following the senseless murder of his parents. Then he gets involved in some ninja martial discipline stuff---I moaned a bit at the shameless trendiness of it---but it works out OK. Interestingly, this Bush Jr-era film initially makes you think it is a guns-and-vigilante proponent but ultimately snares you by the end to see that it is something else pretty much altogether---a portrait of Batman as originally and forever wanting peace and engaging in violence only as necessary. So it neatly plays both sides of the mass market. Thus this Batman is a more regular guy, and psychologically not so murky. A little less gay than usual maybe? Anyway, although Wayne Manor, looking ridiculously unAmerican (obviously a late 18th-century British manor house; maybe why -- spoiler -- they burned it down?) and Michael Caine as the trusty retainer are there, the emphasis is on the psychology rather than the gimmicks. I was not overwhelmed by the film, but it gave me a certain reliable pleasure, and looking back on it, the reason it grows on me a bit on reflection is because of that character realism. [The best of the older Batmans stand up on their own: Tim Burton's breakthrough 1989 one is good, but his "Batman Returns" is too over the top even for me. Joel Schumacher's "Batman Forever" is very witty both visually and thematically. Even the sometimes lamented "Batman and Robin" has some great stylish moments, despite its partial try-to-please-everyone Batgirl misstep. But they all must be considered separately from this reconceived take on it.] 3.4 stars. 8.09

After training with a ninja (Ken Watanabe) in Asia following his parents' brutal murder, Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) returns to Gotham City and finds it overrun with crime and corruption. Discovering a cave under Wayne Manor, Bruce assumes a new identity and wages a one-man war against the criminals that plague the city. Katie Holmes, Liam Neeson, Gary Oldman, Tom Wilkinson and Morgan Freeman co-star. Christopher Nolan directs.
This was the best Batman movie to date!!! The only thing I did not like about the film was Katie Holmes. I am not a fan or her and I did not like her character Rachel Dawes either. A Must See!!
Main Elements: Action & Adventure, Comics, Justice, Crime, Some Romance

Thank the lord!!! This movie is so well done and so.....awesome that it's hard to just point out one bad thing about this movie. The perfect anti-toxin to the truly horrible "Batman & Robin". So if you were poisoned by that horrible movie, "Begins" is the antidote. I love comic book movies (because I read comic books myself) and started to lose faith in the Batman Series, but this movie has re-instilled faith in my love for comic book films. This movie would make Bob Kane proud. So I hope you are listening Avi Arad, Please don't let Brett "Rush Hour" Ratner, destroy the X-Men movies! If you can't get Chris Nolan (Begins Director) to direct X-Men 3, THEN JUST WAIT!!!!!! so Mr.Arad just listen to this, "Good Things Happen To Those Who Wait". :)

What makes Batman Begins my favorite Batman movie is its humanity; the heart and soul of a softer Bruce Wayne. Scared lonely and full of doubt to start, Wayne needs life experience and tutelage to become that man Gotham city needs, and with the loss of his parents and big shoes to fill, we feel his pain and his struggle. Batman, unlike any other hero in the genre, is completely human (not alien or malformed) and this separates him from all others. Batman Begins is an exciting, well-written story that is both inspirational and full of adrenaline. Freeman (seriously, what movie is he not in?) and Caine are exceptional, but Bale makes the movie live a deeply meaningful life. It sets a new bar for the franchise with great writing and a stylistically cool look. Life long Batman fans will be pleased and this movie will even convert people not previously, into heroes. 5 stars. 3/12/09

Finally, some one gets it right! This is a more accurate portrayal of Batman, without all of the goofiness and glow in the dark paint.

A great film, and a wonderful reboot of the series. Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Liam Neeson, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, and Cillian Murphy all do a terrific job playing their respective characters. Wayne's early struggles as a man who can't find his way is told excellently. The way the story comes full circle and resolves itself is equally brilliant. My only complaint is Katie Holmes and the character of Rebecca in general. Katie Holmes' acting is flat and bore-inducing. While everyone else seems to be well-rounded Rebecca is a one-note character who keeps trying to save the world although all it seems to do is get her in deep s**t. Not only that, but her characters serves NO purpose at all in the plot. Get rid of Rebecca and the movie is near perfect.

Batman Begins
Enjoyable and reinvented well, but the villains are uninspired and easily forgettable. Christian Bale performs well as Batman, as does Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon. Unfortunately the origin of Batman is a story already well known, and treading over familiar territory begins to drag in places. Very nicely sets up the next film at the end.
