I could have saved myself an unpleasant two hours had I known one fact. Just two words. So I'll give them to you: Werner Herzog As bad a director as he is, this may be his worst.

The character Nicolas Cage plays, a highly esteemed law enforcer, is having a bad day - a family of 5 was slaughtered, including the kids; his cocaine supply was cut; he ows money to his bookie; his prostitue friend is being abused by a well...
I've not been a fan of Nicholas Cage since...well, let's just say it's been a while. He is fantastic in this movie, however. He plays a cop who is hooked on drugs, dabbles in all sort of shady business, and somehow still manages to do some good....
Gave this movie one star then changed it to a "five". We don't like DARK movies, and this is one, for sure. Best acting I have ever seen by Nick Cage. The actor playing the bookie is "Doc" from Deadwood. He's always true to his part. So it is well...
The original Bad Lieutenant had much more subtext and while Nicolas Cage seems to be out on a limb here, Harvey Keitel was truly on the edge. And Werner Herzog has done much better films the main question I have is: WHAT WAS UP WITH THE SHAKY...
