Profile of Backseat
The mood of Backseat is bittersweet, humorous, and clever. The plot centers around thirtysomething life, adolescence vs. adulthood, and city life. It features dry humor and irreverent humor. Backseat is a comedy, drama, and independent movie. Stylistically, it has a road movie structure and is talky. In approach, it is realistic. Backseat takes place, at least partly, in an urban environment. The setting is Canada and New York. It happens in contemporary times.
Summary of Backseat
Although Ben (Rob Bogue) and Colton (screenwriter Josh Alexander) are all grown up, they still have some maturing to do. The two New Yorkers exit the city for a road trip to Montreal with a dual purpose: meet actor Donald Sutherland and transport a rather large quantity of drugs across the border. BACKSEAT is directed by Bruce Van Dusen, who made a splash with COLD FEET in the early years of the Sundance Film Festival.
