babel start with comfortable condition and after some plan we see problems come... in this movie Guillermo Arriaga Jordan try make film like 'crash' and i think in that genre this is great but i think we have some misunderstanding, when babel was ended i mostly sure Japanese girl want make suicide but ( i think ) writer want dosen't has all awful ending and let it down...
babel was collection of complex problem and i think its not beautiful ...
also there is great point in music ... we have some plan with mute status and light music in background ... all of this can add tag of art on movie ... noting more
at the end i can say this move be valued to 2 hours left for see!

I'm glad I didn't pay to see it in a theater
This is one of those movies that leaves you with no conclusion, no closure, just questions. Expect the movie to be equal parts of Arabic, Japanese, Japanese Sign Language, Spanish, and English. No subtitles. You piece it together by context. There are some "time slip" edits, but they turn out to be neither clever nor artistic. Despite the weak story thread, this does movie includes some beautiful cinematography which should earn it a few stars.

This is the international version of "Crash", except that the plotlines don't intersect in meaningful ways. The story is attempting to make some points, but they are rarely expressed clearly. The premise of language barriers and the break down of communication in relationships was poorly used. Language barriers never really affected any of the situations presented, and the character development was so sparse that relationship issues were inexplicable and uninteresting. A headshakingly simple-minded, Hollywood-style, anti-gun bias is sprinkled here and there as the movie lurches along. Each storyline had promise, especially the Moroccan family, but they didn't hinge on each other enough to keep me captivated by a common thread. The deaf Japanese girl's tie in to the rest of the film was tangential at best. Screenwriters should concentrate on creating ONE great story, as opposed to mashing-up a bunch of potentially good stories. Beautiful cinematography and great acting keep this film from being a waste of time, but it certainly isn't as deep as it wants to be.

don't let my 3 stars mislead you... it is more a 2 1/2 stars. Definitely not a movie to compete for the oscar to the best movie (or, better said, not a movie to enter my list of favorites).
Babel is... I would use the word demagogic... it uses...

Babel is... I would use the word demagogic... it uses some of the fears of (american) people (to terrorism, to foreigners, to travel abroad of the US borders) to build a story that left me with a weird feeling (yes, I know, I am not being very concrete).
about the fear to foreigners: all the bad or tragic people and actions come from non-americans. It is incredible that a mexican director like iñárritu shows mexicans as dangerous, drunk or lazy people... maybe I didn't get it, and he was just showing mexicans as they are seen by americans...

Have to admit that I got choked up watching this film. I loved 21 Grams but hated Syriana which some compared this to but it is no comparison in my humble opinion. A WARNING....this movie will not give you all the answers to the questions you have...

Have to admit that I got choked up watching this film. I loved 21 Grams but hated Syriana which some compared this to but it is no comparison in my humble opinion. A WARNING....this movie will not give you all the answers to the questions you have but I was shocked by how mush I loved this film. Maybe I didnt expect mush (that always helps) but I rented this just out of being curious and it left an impression on me. Boring?? No way, unless you want to play video games all day. If you somewhat enjoyed 21 Grams and CRASH then you will love this. It emotional and humbling and worth watching just remember that it weaves in and out of time (think Pulp Fiction) but WOW was I surprised by this one. The Oscars is this SUnday (Today is Fri. the 23rd) and I picked the Departed but would have no problem if BABEL wins it all. Bravo to Alejandro Gonzalez Insrriu and everyone invovled....to think that I almost skipped this since it looked ok in previews. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

The aptly-named Babel presents three loosely connected stories in which miscommunication rules. Whether its class, cultural, gender, sexual, political or generational differences, the people in the film cant quite connect with each other. This theme is beautifully rendered by superior actors and a tight script that tells the three stories continuously instead of separately. The situations are believable and we get to care about the characters. Its a somber film, but quite engaging. Babel may sound off-putting, but its a superior and enjoyable movie.

I was a huge fan of Amores Perros and also 21 Grams. But with Babel, I felt like I was watching the repetition of a formula: characters leading seemingly disconnected lives are suddenly connected by a single tragedy. Inarritu's movies seemed bold at first in their willingness to explore dark subjects. But now they just feel uniformly glum. After watching Babel, you have to wonder: Does this guy think that nothing humorous or happy *ever* happens on the planet? See a therapist, Alejandro. Get over it. Then make a movie in a different key.

Crash-Lite. Another tale of linked fate, bad decisions and bad luck. Essentially the story of a rifle and the fate of those who encounter it that ensnares families in four different countries. The movie, while beautifully shot and effective in individual scenes strains belief at ever turn.
If anybody ever compares another movie to either Crash or Babel I will make sure to NOT watch it.
