As You Like It, 2006

In this annoying film we are continually assailed by inappropriate juxtapositions of time, place and manner. The disjunctures draw attention to themselves to the point that when the truly great lines arrive, Forest of Arden speech, Ages of Man speech, it is only then that the viewer is reminded that he is in the company of Shakespeare. I am terribly disappointed in the director, who has given us wonderful Shakespeare in the past. Apparently he has simply given in to the fashionable urge to be different for the sake of being different.
