Profile of Aragami: The Raging God of Battle

The mood of Aragami: The Raging God of Battle is atmospheric, suspenseful, and scary. The plot centers around samurai, a master villain, and a master warrior. It is a foreign, action, and thriller movie. Stylistically, it features martial arts. In approach, it is serious. It takes place, at least partly, in the mountains. It happens in ancient times.

Summary of Aragami: The Raging God of Battle

In a competition known as "The Duel Project," several directors were given the challenge to shoot a movie involving a duel in one week's time. Ryuhei Kitamura (creator of VERSUS and ALIVE) was one such director, and ARAGAMI was the result. A philosophical meditation on life, honor, and survival ARAGAMI borrows from the Japanese legend of Musashi Miyamoto to tell the story of a wounded samurai who takes refuge in a Buddhist temple. While recuperating, he meets Aragami, a master swordsman who later reveals himself to be a flesh eating demon. Aragami challenges the samurai to fight him to the death. In the last few hours before the duel, the two opposing swordsmen share several rounds of drinks and form a unique kind of friendship. Their captivating reflections of life eventually lead up to remarkably beautiful dueling sequences, one of Kitamura's proven strengths.

Users Reviews

This movie was lame. It had a good concept but the end product is just horrible. Terrible dialogue, long drawn out silences that I assume were meant to build tension but just made me lose interest. Very disappointing.
